My name Jake Witkowski. I created the unbiased because I was tired of hearing the ridiculously biased local media opinions on Utah sports teams. I am originally from California but, over the past 13 years that I’ve grown to love the Beehive State. In fact, I root for all of the local Universities and professional teams to have success. It brings more interest and revenue into the state I call home. That being said, I can’t stand the way the local media presents stories here.
For example, when I first moved here, when BYU and Utah were both still in the Mountain West Conference, there were articles before football season talking about how the local schools could easily be qualified and not make it into a BCS game. Coming from outside of Utah and knowing the gauntlet of teams that a then Pac-10, Big-12 or SEC team had to go through, it seemed absurd to think that These people thought both programs could be deserving of a BCS game and the possible undefeated team a national title game.
This was about the same time that there were articles about how Andre Kirilenko, Derron Williams, and Carlos Boozer had the talent to get through the West and bring a title to Salt Lake City.
I wondered, how the media could have such a wildly different perception of their own teams than anyone else in the country. Now that I am older and still a huge sports fan, If elt it was time to do something about it. So, I created TheUnbiased to deliver the stories with a nationwide view on things. Because if you only focus on one aspect of a photo it can be easy to miss the big picture.
